Dr. Hang’s Face Focused® treatment techniques are designed to: develop the jaws forward, never backward: work toward proper facial balance; create pleasing facial appearance; protect and/or expand the airway, improve or protect the health of the TMJ’s, and produce broad smiles that are complete to the corners of the mouth. Preventive measures are possible from birth but actual treatment can begin as young as 3 or 4 years old if appropriate. So far our oldest patient was in her 80’s during treatment!

We want to give teenagers not only the most attractive smile possible but also a smile that may help protect them from possible future TMJ/pain issues and perhaps even snoring and sleep apnea.

Proper rest oral posture (meaning a mobile tongue that can fit to the roof of the mouth, teeth lightly together, and breathing through the nose with lips lightly together) is the key to balanced facial growth. If that can be established early, children's faces will grow favorably (forward rather than having long faces) with teeth that are relatively straight and airways that are more open.

Orthotropics®, a technique pioneered by Dr. John Mew, is based on the philosophy that ideal development of the face and jaws is dependent on proper rest oral posture (tongue to the roof of the mouth, teeth lightly together, and lips together breathing through the nose). Orthotropics® seeks to place the teeth and jaws in more ideal positions in the face and encourages proper rest oral posture so future growth will be in a more favorable direction.
